[RANT WARNING]

Man… Americans again managed to elect a president who is out of touch with the main street. Obama thought his job is to help his people live decent lives. Dude, you apparently didn’t get the memo – your job is to bomb and occupy a random country far, far away, squander resources, take a lot of time off and chill for the next eight years. The way you’re going at it, you won’t get your second term. Think about it. Who’d want to have a few cold ones with a guy who talks about health care and environment and all this policy stuff… If people are stupid enough to actually like the system which makes them remortgage their house and live like paupers because they got sick, let them have it.

Seriously, though, watching the amount of stupidity on display is frightening. And it’s even more frightening to watch media completely abdicate any responsibility to encourage meaningful and respectful debate. I never thought I’d say it, but we might actually be better off if various CNNs and so called newspapers disappeared tomorrow.

Obama made history and I think that his achievement is very inspirational in small and big ways.

Toronto stinks – literally.

National Art Gallery in Ottawa. I have been to Ottawa many times. Every time I am there, I try to see the permanent photo collection at the gallery, and every time, for one reason or another that particular section of the gallery is closed. This year was no exception. Kertesz portion was neat, a small selection but very neat with a couple of my favourites there – the Christopher Pratt like seascape and a couple of Paris images. The rest of the gallery, more or less, was boarded up for renovations – and I am not exaggerating here.

Today is a truly historic day south of the border. I actually can’t believe that I will not be watching the election coverage until later tonight, but such is life. Like most people, I am sceptical of a politician promising change. Well you know what, listening to Obama speeches over the last year or so, I have teared up more than once. In fact, I probably cried more than in the last ten years, so he better bring this one home. In elementary school I had a phys ed teacher who explained the school’s basketball team strategy as: “We are going to go out there and score more points than the other guys.” To paraphrase him, the Democrats tonight need to get more votes out than the Republicans can steal. And it’s very sad indeed that that is the case. So if you are an American visitor and you did not vote yet, please do. It’s really important this time out. Here is a remarkable collection of the campaign photos worth looking at.
